Dynamics 365 License Planner

Updated for October 1, 2019 changes
What is this?

This is a tool for Microsoft License Administrators to understand and plan for the costs of licensing all of their Dynamics 365 application users.

How does it work?

With the changes launched on October 1, 2019, licenses for Dynamics 365 users are calculated differently. Rather than a “one-size-fits-all” approach, your users now need only pay for the applications they are using.

For each unique set of applications used by a group of users, you will have different licensing costs. This application allows you to build groups of “User Plans” that define each licensing package so that you can understand exactly how costs are allocated across your organization.

Usage instructions

To use this tool, add a “user plan” for each type of user within your organization. For example, if your sales people use only “Sales Enterprise”, you’ll add a User Plan with just that plan and save it. After you’ve saved it you can specify how many users of that User Plan will be in use within your organization.

Repeat this for each unique combination of applications to cover usage across your organization.

Once each plan is saved, you will have the opportunity to specify how many users of that type will be required.

All of the complicated licensing logic about how the plans are billed is calculated for you within the calculator, all you need to do is specify the plan types and how many users. The total presented will give you a good plan for what licensing across your organization will cost.
